NVIDIA Launches NemoClaw: Open-Source Stack Ushers in Safer Agentic AI Era

At NVIDIA's GTC 2026 conference on March 16, the company unveiled NemoClaw, an open-source software stack designed to bolster AI safety by adding robust privacy and security controls to the rapidly growing OpenClaw agent platform. Described as the "missing infrastructure layer" for autonomous AI agents, NemoClaw enables users to deploy always-on, self-evolving AI assistants with a single command, addressing critical risks associated with agentic AI systems that operate independently and access personal data.

NemoClaw targets the challenges of agentic AI by creating an isolated sandbox that enforces policy-based guardrails for security, network access, and data privacy. It supports hybrid local-cloud operations, allowing agents to leverage open models like NVIDIA Nemotron running locally on RTX PCs, DGX Spark supercomputers, and other NVIDIA hardware, while securely routing to frontier cloud models. This setup ensures agents learn new skills and perform tasks within strict boundaries, preventing unauthorized data exposure and misuse.

Key features include a privacy router for controlled cloud access, NVIDIA OpenShell runtime for safer agent execution, and automatic evaluation of compute resources to prioritize local inference for enhanced privacy and cost efficiency. By integrating with the NVIDIA Agent Toolkit, NemoClaw promotes explainable AI outcomes through tools like AI-Q, fostering greater trust in autonomous systems.

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang hailed OpenClaw as "the operating system for personal AI," emphasizing NemoClaw's role in making secure agents accessible to all. Peter Steinberger, OpenClaw's creator, noted the collaboration builds "powerful, secure AI assistants" with essential guardrails. Hands-on demos at GTC allow attendees to customize and deploy NemoClaw-powered agents.

This launch represents a significant advancement in AI safety infrastructure, particularly for agentic systems prone to risks like data breaches and unintended behaviors.
