UL Solutions Achieves Milestone with World's First AI Safety Certifications for Commercial Products

UL Solutions announced on March 12, 2026, the issuance of the world's first certifications for AI-enabled products under its pioneering AI safety testing service. This landmark development evaluates products against UL 3115, the Outline of Investigation for the Safety of AI-Based Products, confirming their robustness, reliability, transparency, and accountability. The certifications target autonomous AI systems operating in mission-critical environments, incorporating safeguards for human oversight to build public trust.

The first recipients are the Qcells Energy Management System (EMS) from Qcells, a solar energy solutions provider, and the Omniconn Platform 4.0 smart building solution from Omniconn. These products were rigorously assessed to ensure trustworthy performance, setting a new benchmark for AI deployment in real-world applications such as energy management and intelligent building operations.

UL 3115 represents a comprehensive framework developed by UL Solutions to address the unique risks of AI technologies, including potential failures in decision-making and unintended behaviors. By providing independent validation, the standard helps mitigate hazards in sectors where AI reliability is paramount, marking a shift from theoretical safety discussions to practical, certifiable standards.
